Hey there! I forgot to tell you guys that my blogsite brokerbryant.com got posh'd this month. I'm not quite sure why or how but I guess that it's a good thing. So if you have a moment pop over and give me a vote. The site with the most votes at the end of the month gets featured. In fact if you go over there and look at the site you will see our own Maggie Dokic's site, "The Blog That Ate Miami.com" is the featured site for this month. Is that like the best name ever for a blog? I love it!!! Congratulations Maggie.
I launched brokerbryant.com back in January but really haven't spent as much time on it as I should. I do like it. Even though I only post to it once or twice a week, with mostly the same stuff I post on ActiveRain, I actually get a fair amount of business from it.
My problem is I'm just too busy working my business to give it the attention it needs. I guess that's a good problem to have.
By the way, do you ever wonder how many of the "Top Bloggers" in and out of ActiveRain are also "Tops" in their areas of business as well? I do. I wonder how many may just be very good writers and Bloggers but struggle in their business. Does being an "Expert Blogger" necessarily translate into being an "expert" REALTOR®, loan officer, mortgage broker, stager….etc.
Do you feel, as part of the blogging family, that folks that don't blog are missing the boat? I do sometimes. I don't understand why they wouldn't take advantage of this awesome opportunity to show folks their "expertise" and get business from it.
But you know, recently I have talked with quite a few REALTORS® in my area about blogging and they didn't have a clue what I was talking about. The funny thing was when I explained it to them they just said they didn't have the time to do it. Folks, these are REALTORS® that do a ton of business. Much more than I do. So even though I may feel they are missing the boat the reality is they truly don't need blogging in their business.
As much as I enjoy blogging I can understand where they are coming from. I too have plenty of business. I had business before I started blogging and will still have business if and when I ever decide to stop. I blog for one reason, I enjoy it. I'm at the computer all day anyway so why not have fun while I'm there and share what I love with others….real estate.
It's certainly made me better at what I do but, in all honesty, I was pretty good to begin with. I grew my business by being balanced with my marketing. I do a lot of different things to generate business and as much as I love blogging I still do the other stuff. I don't believe in putting all of my eggs in the same basket. Do you?
Do you feel blogging is the "cure all" of Real Estate? The magic elixir that will change our business forever? The one thing we can do that will make us successful? Do you believe that? I don't.
I truly feel blogging is a very exciting way to get business but I also believe it will evolve into something completely different in the next couple of years. I don't know what that will be but I'm pretty sure we shouldn't be counting to heavily on blogging for our business. It should be an add on. Something to enhance our business not build it. Our marketing efforts need to be balanced. If not…..well, we could be in trouble if the dynamics of blogging change quickly and all of our eggs are cracked.
What if NAR or your State's Real Estate Board, decided tomorrow, to clamp down on all the ethical and legal violations that abound in blogdom? And believe me they do abound. I have visited many blog sites and for the life of me I can't even tell who they belong to. No company name, no licensee name, no contact numbers, nothing that even gives a hint that the owner of the site is a licensed REALTOR®. Those sites could be shut down overnight. Licenses could be revoked. All the hard work and SEO "thingies" would be worthless in a matter of minutes.
So my advice is, blog away and have fun. Make it a PART of your business plan but still put effort into the other areas as well. Don't place all your eggs in the same basket. What say you?
